StartHope@Home: Participant report

All the way to his own small farm in Burkina Faso with sheer optimism

Donnerstag, 23. November 2023

Ibrahim returned to his home country in the summer of 2022, after successfully completing our coaching program.

Our former participant Ibrahim has opened a small farm in Burkina Faso. Ibrahim returned to his home country in the summer of 2022, after successfully completing a coaching program at our Cologne offices in May 2022.
The trained gardener had been living in Germany for nearly 20 years and ultimately decided to return to his home country. He didn’t see any more prospects for himself in Germany.
He took part in our StartHope@Home program with a clear idea in his mind. After many odd jobs, working for example as a clothes seller or a cook, it was Ibrahim’s wish to return to farming. A few months later, he had already started his own little farm in the state of Dedougou.

From the very beginning, Ibrahim planned to open a farm cultivating chickens and vegetables. As part of his coaching, Ibrahim worked with his coach to develop important business content and strategies. One of his first tasks was to clearly define his target customers. Ibrahim defined bar owners, restaurant owners, kiosk owners, market sellers and the village community as his most important customers.

The coaching also focussed on marketing strategies. Ibrahim learned how he can effectively use flyers, WhatsApp and Facebook to advertise his business and attract customers.
After he returned, he quickly began growing corn, beans and peanuts; in January 2023 a chicken coop was built, some chicks have already grown into chickens. We are still in touch with Ibrahim and always look forward to hearing from him.
Ibrahim is a shining example of those who keep going despite the obstacles in their way. Thanks to his unbridled optimism, his determination and the coaching he received from StartHope@Home, he was able to build a foundation for himself again in Burkina Faso.

We are very glad to have met Ibrahim and to have accompanied him on his way, and we wish him all the best for the future!
