OUTO Changemaker 2025 - Flat Earth Adventure Club

Flat Earth Adventure Club empowers BIPoC and urban communities to build confidence, skills, and connection in the outdoors—through guided hikes, rides, climbs, and community gatherings that celebrate challenge, growth, and joy in nature.

OUTO Changemaker 2025 - Flat Earth Adventure Club

1. What do you offer?
Flat Earth Adventure Club is a space for the BIPOC community to embrace the outdoors, share the highs and lows,
and grow confidence through the challenges that being in nature can present. This involves people of all interests in
the outdoors but we would like to specifically call out that we want to champion the ideas of challenging yourself and
(competently) pushing ones limits to drive growth.
This is a community to be developed both online and in person to gather people together to participate in hikes, bike
rides, climbing, and general gatherings during the colder and quieter parts of the year for general knowledge sharing
and discussion.

2. Why did you start your organization or initiative?
Flat Earth Adventure Club was born out of necessity. We were both hiking, biking and climbing and would constantly
get asked for recommendations or help with knowledge on gear or routes from our community. In the end, we knew
there was a need and desire to connect with nature that wasn’t being fulfilled so we decided to step up.

3. What do you want to achieve with your organization or idea?
We hope to inspire those of the global majority as well as all urban dwellers to get outside and explore. Nature is
healing and if we can enjoy it respectfully, it teaches us a lot. We plan to teach people outdoor skills, help them push
their limits in a guided environment and inspire the confidence to help them harmoniously and respectfully exist in the
outdoors.

4. What does a more equitable outdoor scene mean to you?
We see the future of the outdoor scene break away from the endless cycle of gear consumerism, into communities of
people who just enjoy being outside. Including our elders and indigenous practices of living symbiotically with nature
so that we can preserve and protect our greatest gift.

5. Why do we need to make nature more accessible to BIPoC?
We need representation! It’s time to dispel the myth that outdoor adventures aren't for us. Knowledge is power, so we
need to inform the people how enjoyable it is to be outside and how easy it is to access it in the DACH region.

6. What specifically do you want from the outdoor community and society to enable genuine participation
and safe spaces for BIPoC?

We NEED support. We need the community to hold up a mirror to itself. We need experienced leaders humbly willing
to pass on knowledge and brands willing to financially support initiatives in a non performative manner.

7. Which (outdoor) role models or movements have inspired you?
Alex Honnold, Adventures with Amina, Major Taylor, Tommy Caldwell, Biniam Girmay, Dante Young, Sebastien
Foucan, Yamakasi Freerunners

8. What are your hopes for the OUTO Changemaker Program?
We hope to connect, learn from, inspire and be inspired by like-minded individuals who enjoy and appreciate the
outdoors, as well as utilize the OUTO network to sustainably bring value to our community.

9. What motivates you most about participating in the OUTO Changemaker Program?
All the other changemakers really motivate us. Their passion and dedication to bring their ideas to life and inspires us
to remain committed to ours.

10. What advice would you give to others who want to promote a more inclusive outdoor scene?
Get out there and do it, don’t sell out your dreams, don’t quit!

11. Complete the sentence: Nature means to me…
Nature means freedom and living in the moment.
