Alex is from Nigeria and has been coached to start up his own business through StartHope@Home in Cologne.
Alex chose to participate in the StartHope@Home program in February 2018 after it was recommended to him by a volunteer worker. Previously, he had already been in contact with the Central Return Counselling Service in southern Bavaria and was in the process of preparing his departure to Nigeria. There, he would like to become self-employed with chicken farming. To get additional support, he enrolled at StartHope@ome. He completed a profiling, in which his founding plans, his previous level of knowledge and its requirements were determined. Based on this – and taking into account the tight time-frame up to the planned departure - a development plan was elaborated. Alex was trained by Social Impact about foundation planning and business model development, financing and negotiating. In retrospect, Alex described the workshop on the topic of sales as particularly interesting:
"I know more about how to make business to business communication, about the way to approach costumers. I feel more confident now."
After his return to Nigeria in March 2018 Alex received further consultation from a member of staff of the GIZ (German association of international cooperation). He was given the opportunity to take part in a training relevant to his particular expertise. This is helping him to strengthen his competence in chicken farming. Alex will now enter an important phase, where he will be able to turn knowledge into practice and establish his enterprise. We wish him all the best!
