In the summer of 2023, Oyungerel fulfilled her dream of having her own kindergarten in Ulaanbaatar.
Oyungerel, a 36-year-old woman from Mongolia and a mother of two children, came to our StartHope@Home office in Cologne in 2022 with a clear goal in mind: after returning to Mongolia, she wanted to open a kindergarten in Ulaanbaatar. The fees would be calculated based on the parents' income to enable families with lower incomes to receive care for their children.
To achieve this goal, Oyungerel took part in our online and offline coaching program for two months. The material covered in the coaching was varied, and included, among other things, the creation of a financial plan, the definition of target groups, the development of the value proposition, as well as the formulation of a marketing concept, which included designing a flyer.
The organisation SOLWODI was also involved, which enabled Oyungerel to establish contact with the local partner organisation Caritas Mongolia beforehand and receive additional financial support. This gave her a lot of confidence.
At the end of 2022, Oyungerel returned to Mongolia. Thanks to special training, she received a permit to run a daycare center. She also completed a driving course so she can transport the children she looks after.
The search for a suitable rental property for the kindergarten was challenging in the beginning, and the school summer holidays began in June, which initially interfered with her plans. But Oyungerel was not discouraged. She used the summer break to find a suitable property, renovate it and equip it with the necessary equipment and furniture.
In August 2023, the time had come: Oyungerel opened her kindergarten. The facility can accommodate up to 10 children at a time. Oyungerel started looking after five to eight children from the ages of two to five every day. The children receive warm meals and a safe environment to play and learn.
We are incredibly happy that Oyungerel was able to implement her plans. Her kindergarten in Ulaanbaatar is not only an asset to the community, but also a dream come true for Oyungerel herself.
